michael conlan fightThere is speculation that Michael Conlan will fight Mexican Alfredo Chanez on May 26.

The Belfast super bantamweight is preparing for his second professional fight which will take place at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois.

Chanez has been reported as being Conlan’s next test in the paid ranks, following his pro debut victory over Tim Ibarra on March 17.

Chanez has had eight professional bouts, winning four and losing four.

Two of his wins have come via stoppage, while he has yet to be stopped in the paid ranks.

The Mexican would step up two weight divisions for a six-round clash with Conlan, having competed at super flyweight in October last year.
The split decision loss to Alonso Ronquillo Nunez was his only fight of 2016, but Chanez did fight five times the year before.

He has lost his last two fights via decisions, to Carlos Licona and Alonso Ronquillo Nunez respectively.

Chanez has campaigned as low as light flyweight.

Conlan stopped Ibarra in his pro debut back on March 17 in New York and will be hoping to follow that up with another impressive stoppage in Chicago.

If he wins, Conlan is set to appear on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s world title fight with Jeff Horn in Australia on July 2.
