Belfast lightweight will feature on the undercard of Ryan Burnett v Lee Haskins
Paul Hyland Jnr admits he will glean inspiration from fighting under the big atmosphere of the SSE Arena next month.
Hyland Jnr will feature on the undercard of Ryan Burnett’s world title showdown with Lee Haskins on June 10.
The unbeaten lightweight (15-0) is still waiting to discover who is opponent will be, but has been promised that the fight will be for a recognised title.
“I am hungry to win a title, and I have been told I will be fighting for a title on June 10,” he said.
“I am excited for it. It will be a big fight, and it is on the undercard of a world title fight, so that’s brilliant.
“Especially because it’s Ryan (Burnett). He has been a friend since we were kids, so I am delighted to be fighting alongside him.
“This is the biggest platform I have ever boxed on. I have always gone to watch fights at this venue in the past, including Rogie (Martin Rogan) and Martin Lindsay and Carl Frampton.
“The atmosphere has always been electric, but I have always been a fan. Now I will be in the ring, fighting. I will get to experience walking into that atmosphere, and I am excited for that.”
Hyland Jnr hopes his June 10 fight will act as a “stepping stone” to bigger fights in the future.
“It is another fight for me under Eddie Hearn and Matchroom, so hopefully Eddie starts bringing me along,” he added.
“He has told me my June 10 fight will be for a title, so hopefully he stands by his word. They are in talks with people but nothing has been finalised yet, but hopefully it can be in the next week or so.”
Despite not knowing who he will face on June 10, Hyland insists he will be “ready for anyone” come fight night.
“I don’t know who I am fighting yet, so you can’t prepare for a specific style,” he said.
“My fitness is pretty good, and I have been sparring 10 rounds and stuff like that. I have been sparring different styles, from orthodox to southpaw – you name it.
“That means I will be ready to switch on for whoever I meet.
“I will be ready no matter who I meet on June 10. I always practice and I am always in the gym working out new things.
“Once I find out who I am meeting I will then focus on what I need to do to beat them.”
